How do instant gifts work?
Wine tours are nothing without the perfect surroundings in which to indulge. Nestled inland from Newcastle, the Hunter Valley is a mere 2 hour drive from Sydney and is home to wineries, luscious farmland, art galleries, golf courses and native wildlife.

On this small-group tour with no more than 16 participants you’ll taste Australian made wines at three boutique wineries, paired with a food menu to compliment every drop. Before leaving Sydney, you’ll visit the Sydney Fish Markets to purchase fresh seafood to be used in the menu and stop in the Hawkesbury region for breakfast.

Your guide is not just any old guide – he is your cook as well, and is a qualified chef! We do this to make sure that the food you get to eat matches your tour and the wines you are tasting to perfection.

Our mission is to make your day not just an outing, but an expedition, exploring vineyards, and experiencing first class cooking in idyllic surrounds.

Jimmy was an awesome guide and chef throughout our whole tour. The 7 course meal throughout the day was paired finely with all the wine tasting. The little extras throughout the day and the amazing service made the tour so fun and memorable !

The Hunter Valley Gourmet Food tour was sensational. Jimmy was the perfect host, tour guide and chef extraordinare. Starting off at the Fish Markets, then onto Brooklyn for a perfectly cooked breakfast, sushi making class in a beautiful location. His knowledge of the Hunter was amazing and the wine-paring with the food made it an experience to remember. A terrific day. 100% recommendation. Thanks again Jimmy. Louise and friends.

Jimmy was a very interactive and pleasant tour guide. He was attentive to when we wanted to move on to different places, well prepared and cooked amazing food. The stops on the trip were smaller wineries, so it was great to go there as we wouldn't have known about them otherwise. Jimmy provided hand santiser and made sure we followed COVID restrictions at every stop. Overall, the tour was a great experience and we would recommend it to anyone! - Dan and Antonia

Fantastic Day Trip! Super organized and a wonderful surprises happening all day. Lovely Venues and made so very welcome everywhere. Jimmy runs a fabulous trip. We can't speak highly enough of it. As frequent travelers we really appricate the ''polished planning'' and will certainly been bringing a group along next trip.

We had an absolutely amazing time, sipping wine and enjoying perfectly paired food prepared by Jimmy! The trip was organised by our friend Steph who had already been on the tour before, so we knew it was going to be good, but oh dear, the day surpassed our expectations!! Jimmy was attentive, super chill and approachable, and an absolute legend! We are considering booking the Blue Mountains trip soon too! I don't normally leave reviews, but trust me, you won't regret a tour with Jimmy!

Jimmy was a great tour guide and it was an incredible experience going up to the hunter with him. He is very knowledgeable about the history of surrounding areas and made the trip very fun and enjoyable. Needless to say the food he prepared for us at each stop was amazing and paired well with each of the wines. Would highly recommend!

Couldn’t have asked for anything more - highly recommend. Every precaution was taken for COVID so we didn’t feel uncomfortable or uneasy for a second. Jimmy is a wonderful, warm and knowledgeable host, who served up delicious food, took us to stunning wineries and gave us a day to remember. He was genuinely passionate about what he does, and enthusiastic about all his guests and giving them a great experience. Will be back again in no time

Have done wine tours all over the world, and this by far was one of the Best. Having the trip led by Chef Jimmy, was also the most unique we have ever done. Entire day from pickup to drop off went off without a hitch .Excellent choices of the wineries as well. Love small groups and small family run wineries. Next time we are in NSW, plan to do his trip to the Blue Mountains. If you love Food and Wine, this is the trip to do. Paul& Deb from Toronto Canada

Chef Jimmy is the real deal! Never a dull moment(except for the quiet ride back)! Great food, diversity of events, perfect timing, fantastic wines! Never been on such a memorable and money well spent tour.

This was our favorite part of our visit to Australia! Jimmy combined interesting stops with some amazing and high quality food. You could tell that he cared about his vendors and the food products that he served up. Not only was the food amazing, the wine delicious, but we also saw a bunch of kangaroos! We also got to see the fish market from a chef's point of view and make sushi out in the open air. Definitely definitely recommend it!

We were glad this tour went ahead on Monday mar 16 with the covid virus fears. Jimmy kept everybody well sanitized as there were 15 of us. We had a great mix of Aussies, Americans,Canada & HongKong. Everyone got along and we all had a great time. As advertised, Jimmy cooks amazing meals with food bought from the Sydney Fish Market . At the hawkesbury we even learned how to make and roll our own sushi to eat later in the day. We visited 3 boutique wineries with impressive wines and at the last two wineries we ate as we tasted. The kangaroo sliders were to die for. They were THAT good. I would not hesitate to recommend people to do this tour.

our day started at 7am with Jimmy picking us up in his passenger van. Being in Sydney during the COVID-19 outbreak, we thought maybe our tour wouldn't be full, but people love wine and no global pandemic can stop them! we had all 15 folks in our tour ready to leave behind the worries of the world and have a great day. we started with brekky at a park and our sushi rolling class. i had never made my own sushi before, but Jimmy was a great instructor! we then drove on to Hunter valley (The Hunter) and visited three wineries. they were all great and accommodating. Plus Jimmy served us courses at 2 of the 3 wineries. All the food was great - we had scallops, kangaroo sliders, asparagus spears with truffle oil, and some cooked sausage. our experience was wonderful and would highly recommend this excursion!

Absolutely fantastic day - great food and wine made even more enjoyable by the passion Jimmy brought. If possible, a trip not to be missed.

This is a must do while you are in Sydney. Jimmy is wonderful and very passionate about what he does. He is fun and very knowledgeable. I went solo and had an incredible day with great people and delicious food and wine. Highly recommend this excursion!!

Awesome experience, from pick up to drop off, the attention to detail, the food, the wines, Jimmy... everything is way better than advertised. Highly recommended tour!

Cam March 2020

This is the best blend of tour group, wine tasting, and foodie trip anyone could ask for. Jimmy does an outstanding job of showing you the best of the hunter valley, thing you wouldn't see in a big group and also places you'd miss if you went on your own. He also does an excellent job with food allergies and dietary restrictions.

My wife and I, who have recently been getting more into wine tasting, wine making, and the viticulture, visited Australia for one week with the desire to interact with the wine regions of the country. Hunter Valley, being the oldest wine region of Australia, was a must, and was near to Sydney, which allowed for easy travel plans. Reviewing the options that were present on Trip Advisor, we noted this one that is offered by Gourmet Getaway Tours, and decided "hey, why not?" Boy, are we glad we decided to book this trip. Jimmy, who is the owner and mastermind behind the company and this tour, has meticulously smoothed out all the rough edges of this tour that make it such a seamless and memorable experience. First of all, Jimmy was a chef in his previous career, which explains the name of the company. He has concocted a menu for the day that is served in small, yet satisfying portions. The small meals include a breakfast, a small snack at the first winery, a small tasting selection at the second winery, and a more conclusive and savory tasting session at the final winery. More importantly, each food tasting meal is served alongside the wines that are presented at the wineries to accompany the tasting and enhance the wine and experience. The wineries that are visited are wonderful. Each wine house were boutique wineries and grew in size as the day progressed. The first was small and intimate. The wines tried were beautiful and deliciously prepared. I won't get into the details, too much, but you will have to ask Peter about the wine making process and appreciate the legend that he surely is. The second winery was wonderful with a greater selection of wines. The wines were young but crisp, and paired well with the foods provided. The final winery was the largest - and this is where the kangaroo sliders came. If you have never tried kangaroo meat, it is a definite must - at least in the way Jimmy prepared them! Aside from the wineries, the trip was really held together by the wonderful, small bits of facts and commentaries that Jimmy weaved into the trip to give the history and background of certain regions. This really helped keep the tour together and was an excellent last bit that really made the trip. If you are considering touring the Hunter Valley wine region, and are looking for an excellent tour guide with multiple meals and facts about the regions you travel through, Gourmet Getaway Tours is for you. My wife and I definitely recommend it.

This was an amazing day out. One of the highlights of our stay in Sydney for sure. The food, the trip, the wineries, Jimmy nailed it. He’s an excellent chef, very likeable person with a great humour and his commentary during the trip about Sydney and the wineries is very informative which makes this tour a must do!

Great intimate tour. This tour is very special. It is a relaxing, upscale way of experiencing the Hunter Valley. Jimmy is a great chef and a great guide. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Sydney.

Timothy_M February 2020

What a terrific experience traveling through Hunter Valley with Jimmy! He is very knowledgeable both as a tour guide and a terrific chef as well. The timing of the tour stops were great and the sites he picked were terrific. We enjoyed the small group he leads as well. We highly recommend this tour if you to to experience great sites, great wine and an amazing assortment of great food. The only suggestion we have is the site say dress should be business casual so we wore pants, but Jimmy wore shorts so you should feel to dress casual!

Ken_B February 2020

The chef was personable, accommodating, and knowledgeable. He maintained a great balance between the food and the wine. His food was great but he didn’t insert himself into the tasting... that was about the wine. Jimmy was happy to answer questions about any relevant topic, he was aware of time, and he broke up what would be a long drive with breaks and relevant information.

Tredvj1 February 2020

Day started very early, and straight to the fish market. Then on to McKell Park for breakfast, which Jimmy prepared on a bbq. Make your own sushi was certainly different, but great fun. Visited three cellar doors, all supplied great wine which complimented by the excellent food Jimmy produced. A small personal tour, which is to be recommended.

Jill M February 2020

This tour was everything I hoped it would be - and MORE! Thx to Jimmy for making this such a special and memorable day. The wines were delicious and plentiful and the food was amazing! So many favourite parts to our day - but I have to say - the stop at the fish market was truly magical. Especially when a regular at the market told us we had lucked in with Jimmy as our tour guide for the day - and boy - was he right! You cannot go wrong with this tour!!!
