Outback Elite Tours’ Classic West MacDonnell Ranges tour visits the same places that the big companies do, but because we are a small outfit, we add a personal touch and we do it in style. Our guides have years of experience in the Outback and we have a passion and a knowledge base the big guys just can’t match.

The West Macs are a stunning natural wonder that deserve to be as famous as nearby Uluru and King’s Canyon. In fact, this spectacular National Park is soon expected to be World Heritage listed. It really is that good!

This prehistoric mountain range is broken by a series of gorges and chasms and is dotted with beautiful waterholes, and isolated pockets of wildlife and plants found nowhere else in the world. Relicts of when these rugged mountains once towered over a tropical landscape. Known as Toritja to the local Arrente Aboriginal people, it is rich with ancient creation stories and sacred sights.

I booked this tour as a solo traveller and was promptly picked up by our friendly guide Kimberley. We stopped to pick up two fellow passengers and were on our way. Each destination was as beautiful as the next. The gorges, the rock formations and lookout points are exemplary of nature's finest artistry, definitely worth seeing. Kimberley was very easy to get along with and she was very knowledgeable. She pointed out many different native plants and had a quick eye for naming the birds that we passed. She was very patient and accommodating, she even made sure I was able to go for a quick swim in the gorges even though it was in the middle of winter. The snacks and the lunch provided were delicious and plentiful. I could not find a fault to this tour. This is highly recommended. Thanks so much for such an incredible day. 17 June 2021

I greatly enjoyed doing this West Macdonnell Ranges tour with Outback Elite. I visited Alice Springs during a very busy time and had read other good reviews about their tours. I emailed them directly to ask about any tours on a particular date and I received a reply very quickly to confirm there was availability. I booked straight away! From start to finish, the tour was extremely enjoyable and well organised. The pick up from the hotel was smooth, and the tour car was very comfortable to ride around in from site to site. Our tour guide Kimberley was attentive to the 3 of us on the tour. She gave helpful information on each of the sites we visited as well information on local flora and vegetation we saw at each site with photo pamphlets to check as well. The morning tea and lunch provided was set up with great care and was fresh and tasty. The freshly brewed coffee was a definite hit with us along with the baked treats. The number of sites we visited hit the right balance along with the time at each location. Kimberley never hurried us and allowed a comfortable amount of time to climb to a lookout at Ormiston Gorge. She was friendly and warm and looked out for each of us throughout the day. I loved the tour and everything about it. I would highly recommend this tour and company to anyone who wants to see these beautiful sites in the West Macdonnell Ranges or others just outside of Alice Springs in one day and with a thoughtful tour guide.

Choosing EliteOutback tours was the best choice I have made for having a private quality experience. Andrew..... guide/ driver , from the moment he greeted us at the Double Tree Hotel , for the start of our 2 days of “” elite “” touring..just knew this was going to be a fun filled , extremely knowledgeable time ahead. Friend I was travelling with agreed that the East MacDonnells were more diversified than the West. Each stopover was a completely different landscape or interest. Certainly a 4WD V8 throughout the Goldfields is the way to be transported.....plenty of snack and lunch breaks with freshly brewed coffee....yes we were spoilt. The colours of the West always spectacular....if you are 80 or more.....the climb to the lookout at Ormiston George is demanding......however I am sure a cuppa and interesting conversation with Andrew still makes for a great day. My 4th holiday/travel to Alice Springs and area.......EliteOutback Tours gave us the quality to enjoy even more the beauty of the Macs

We had a wonderful day out with outback elite exploding the ranges. There was 4 of us and the guide, so a nice small group. Food was excellent & we were grateful for vegan catering. The day is well paced and it was lovely to have a chance to cool off swimming in the waterhole (make sure you pack your swimmers).

What a great day with our host Filippo absolutely nothing was a problem for him his knowledge of the sites we visited today was first class Eight on the bus including a lovely young girl whose English was limited he treated her like a queen as for me a elderly old bloke that walks with the aid of a stick on a couple of walks he chose to stay a little behind to make sure I never missed a single thing much appreciated Filippo ai highly recommend Outback Elite Tours when you are in Alice Springs.

James, our tour guide, took our small group of 8 to some fantastic places; his commentary and knowledge were both amazing and entertaining! I would highly recommend Outback Elite Tours - and James - for this outstanding day trip to the West Macdonnell Ranges. The supplied morning tea was a bonus for its yumminess!!

This was an excellent tour! We did a larger bus tour to Uluru the day prior and were looking for something a little smaller. It ended up being just my partner and I with the tour guide! Definitely worth paying a little extra money for a more personal experience. The tour guide, Andrew, was amazing and gave us a private didgeridoo concert! He also has a horticultural background and deep understanding of the flora and fauna of the outback. It was very informative. I highly recommend.

Have now done three day tours (& am lined up for a fourth) out of Alice Springs with Outback Elite Tours. Frequently very small groups (< 5 people) which means some customisation & catering to interests of group possible. Guides very knowledgeable about geology, flora, fauna, history & Aboriginal culture. Vehicles always clean & very comfortable over uneven terrain. As an added bonus, Fillipo's wife also makes very moreish homemade morning teas & lunches! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We had an excellent day with only 3 plus driver on board. James was terrific - easy, full of information and very pleasant. Sites visited were lovely, food was great - and lots of- and company was excellent. Thank you for a great day.

An awesome experience. Tour guide James was extremely knowledgeable and generous with information on all sites visited. The entire day was most enjoyable and we would recommend it to anyone.

I went on the tour with my mother and sister who were visiting from the UK. When I asked my mother where she wanted to visit in Oz she said the West MacDonnell Ranges. Our guide, Tasha, was superb. She was enthusiastic and full of interesting information about not just the Ranges but Alice Springs and Central Australia generally. My mother was definitely not disappointed. I would highly recommend this tour. Just bring a fly net!

This tour to the West MacDonnell Ranges was absolutely amazing. Our guide Ryan was not only extremely well organised and knowledgeable, he was simply a great guy to spend the day with. There were several stops on the tour including three swimming opportunities, morning tea and a great lunch at Glen Helen Lodge. The home-made scones for morning tea deserve an extra mention - so delicious.

We recently spend a very short time in Alice Springs (we will be back!) and wanted to see as much as we could while we were there. We chose Outback Elite Tours (OET) based on the sights included and previous reviews, and for that we thank you. We were picked up from our hotel on time by Chris who was our guide for the day. He made sure we were well informed of everywhere we went and was extremely flexible when it came to time at each stop. The meals/snacks provided as part of the trip were excellent and being able to swim at some of the water holes was an added bonus. Chris' knowledge and friendly personality made it a wonderful day for us and we definitely came away with more than we bargained for by way of Alice Springs history and local information. If I was to pick out something that maybe wasn't quite 100% it was the fact that there was no adequate fly repellent provided. Aeroguard/Bushmans repellent is not something you think of packing when you travel and out in the bushland the flies are extremely friendly! Aside from that, we would highly recommend OET as they do not just do their itineraries, they are more than happy to purpose build a tour to suit your needs and make it happen for you. Thank you Chris and the OET team, you made our trip to Alice Springs very memorable.

We had a fantastic time and recommend this trip for anyone visiting Alice Spring. Hats off also to our tour guide Chris who was both extremely knowledgeable and accommodating throughout.

Our tour with Filippo was more than excellent. We expected a small bus with others but were surprised that it was just the two of us and we were to travel in a luxury 4 wheel drive. Right from the start it was obvious that we were in for a great trip. Filippo was very friendly and courteous and proved very knowledgable about the landscape and history of the gorges and other places we visited. We also very much appreciated his obvious respect for the culture of the indigenous people of the area and the way he was able to relate the creation stories attached to the land. And what fantastic places to see! Not to forget a memorable morning tea stop ( real brewed coffee or tea with freshly baked goodies ), and a delicious lunch at Glen Helen. As well fruit, snacks and water offered throughout the day. First class all the way!! Thanks Filippo Ray and Bill Sept 5th 2018

My wife and I booked the classic tour as we wished to hear the stories of the West McDonnell Ranges. Our first surprise was when Chris (our guide) turned up right on time and advised us that we were the only guests that day. Wonderful as we had his full attention and he did not disappoint. Not only did we learn about the geology of the various locations but also numerous explanations of both flora and fauna of the area. Chris was able to relate both ancient and more recent changes to the environment. The trip was well catered with morning tea and snacks. We visited Simpson's Gap, Standley Chasm,Ormiston Gorge, Ellery Creek and Glen Helen Gorge. The views of Mount Sonder were magical as were each of the gorges visited. Lunch was at Glen Helen Station. A wonderful day with perfect weather.

Caroline B June 2018

We went on two day 4WD tours, the Chambers Pillar and Rainbow Valley Classic Tour and the West MacDonald Ranges Classic Tour. Our Guide Chris had extensive knowledge of the beautiful landscape, vegetation, bird life and history. He was able to talk about bush food. He was sensitive of the often tragic history of the aboriginal people. While we covered a lot of important locations we never felt rushed and had time to absorb the amazing landscapes and informative information that NT has provided. The vehicle used was comfortable and driven well. Delicious food and lots of fun from our relatable guide. If you want small personal tours where you get lots of time to have your questions answered I have no hesitation in recommending this company. Colin & Caroline

Our guide Chris picked us up exactly on time, went over which places we would be visiting and let us know that all questions were welcomed. He was a mine of information on many topics and chatted easily to our group of 4 people. Spectacular scenery and a great guide made for a wonderful day.

cazat2015 January 2018

Picked up at hostel by relaxed friendly tour guide.Picked up another 2 people from hotel and we were on our way, a tour of 3 people .4WD was really comfortable and we all had a great view of the astoundingly beautiful scenery. We had short hikes in pristine gorges, swims in quiet atmospheric waterholes and I learnt lots about all aspects of this fascinating red centre of Australia . We had a delightful morning tea.More like a buffet with fresh brewed Italian coffee and delicious home made buns ,as well as fruit and other things . I felt more relaxed on this trip than I have the last 3 weeks of travelling,it felt very up market but the price was very affordable and well worth the money. It really was a delightful day. I would highly recommend this tour company.
