Experience the phenomenon of the longest-running show in musical history as it comes to the Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour stage in a dazzling new production.

This is The Phantom of the Opera as you’ve never seen it before. Under the stars, on a floating stage with the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge and city skyline glittering in the background. With fireworks every night and themed pop-up bars and restaurants, this will be an unforgettable evening.

This is the story of a mysterious masked man who lives beneath the Paris Opera House, and the beautiful young singer who becomes his obsession and muse, seduces generation after generation and continues to enchant long-time devotees.

Two of Australia’s most in-demand theatrical talents, director Simon Phillips and designer Gabriela Tylesova, bring a whole new level of spectacle to the show’s defining moments — the mirror, the journey to the Phantom’s lair, the chandelier — on an enormous purpose built stage over the water.

We enjoyed the experience with the opera outside on such a beautiful night. Unfortunately, walking to and from the venue, up the stairs and down to get food, toilet, etc was quite difficult for my husband. And then getting a taxi at the end of the evening, we were forced to stand and wait for a very long time. There were no provisions that we could see for people with a mobility disability. That was disappointing.

Tiffanny_J April 2021

Such a wonderful event across all facets- from venue and facilities set up, to performance and overall experience!

Stephen_G April 2021

The voices of all the cast was excellent. Sound quality was excellent. Food outlets left a lot to be desired.

Peiyan_P April 2021

The actors, dancers, singers are all excellent, perform very well. Music, music performers good work.

Christopher_D April 2021

Beautiful setting, lovely warm evening, staff in abundance and very helpful.Music wonderful and the meals and drink was excellent and reasonably priced

Patricia_K April 2021

Had great seats in Section F directly across from the stage. The singing and the orchestra were magnificent thoroughly enjoyed it. You might need a blanket as we went last Saturday night and it was a little chilly however we could buy a hot coffee at the venue! Also you cannot walk around from Opera House to Mrs Macquarie's Chair via the foreshore at night as the gates are closed. Instead you can catch a water taxi from Opera House to Venue.

Had to change the date, which was easy and convenient. Message should be conveyed to pick up tickets at Box Office on arrival.

Anthony_R April 2021

It was rained off. The decision was a correct decision; but, it could and should have been made earlier.

JENALE_S April 2021

This Harbourside opera spared no expense in it's exquisite show performances, stunning costume design and fabulous vocal demonstrations. The incorporation of the Sydney Harbour surprises were an added bonus and a delightful treat. The translations ensured you were able to follow along with this epic Parisian tragedy. Would definitely recommend!

The quality of the performance, beautiful staging and costumes, the sheer joy of being at a live event

robert_b April 2021

Our first opera experience. Found the first part to intermission a little bland and repetitive. After intermission we became more involved due to a more lively performance and interesting stage props. There were several periods of light rain over the show but this added to the stmosphere. Overall a most enjoyable evening.

This really is a show to see. The cast is very professional, lots of energy and precision dancing and singing. The staging and lighting are also a highlight with the Opera House in the background. We were also most impressed by the availability of good food and drinks at very reasonable prices. The service team was very efficient looking after nearly 3000 audience members efficiently. The biggest test came in the last 10 minutes of the show which was coming to the climax ending - someone nearby decided to have an extraordinary, unconnected FIREWORKS display which was very loud and closely. The Cast played on and the audience was enthralled. A Very Professional performance!

Early in the day, we took a tour of this beautiful building and we were amazed at the engineering feat. In the evening we attended a performance that was a collection of arias at the Dame Sutherland theater that was amazing. Even the pouring rain could not dampen our spirits. A must tour and if you can attend a performance do so.

This opera was amazing! It was an amazing French story! Since it is in French, they had screens providing subtitles in English and possibly Japanese I'm not 100 sure there. As you watched the opera, you could see the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background giving amazing views. Things to note: 1 It is outside, so beware of weather conditions. It ended up getting chilly that night and I wish I had a light jacket. 2 Eat before you go or after. They don't have a wide variety and the items they do have are quite costly. 3 You aren't allowed to take pictures during the performance but near intermission there were fireworks with the Opera House off in the background. Have your cameras ready for that!

Karen R April 2018

Wonderful location with views of Sydney opera house and bridge in background. Excellent show and extremely well organised exit procedure to taxis, buses etc.

Carolyn April 2018

What an amazing performance! It met every expectation we had! Originally disappointed there was no performances at the Opera House, but the opera production of La Boheme on Sydney Harbour was mesmerizing. There is not a bad seat in the venue! It is an outdoor theater over looking the harbor with the Sydney Opera house in the background. Sound system, lighting, even electric screens telling what is going on in the production made the evening magical. At intermission, they had snow falling everywhere and a beautiful firework display! We went early and had a light dinner before the production. The staff helping attendees were so kind and helpful! The one thing we must mention to help those going, is to make a plan on how you will get there. If you can not walk long distance make sure your cab driver knows to let you off at the top of the outdoor theatre! Ours took us to the Opera House and we had a long walk around the harbor through the Botanical gardens which were beautiful, but very long walk! One last thing, be prepared for the cost of a taxi ride if not staying in the harbor area! They increase the starting meter charge for the event and it runs continuous. We were staying in the Darling Harbour Area and it was over 65 round trip and it was approximately 20 KM round trip. Wonderful Venue and highly suggest going if can.

This was an excellent experience seeing an opera under the stars and the performance was great. It rain prior to the performance but was lucky that it cleared in time for the performance. I would highly recommend this experience. The bonus was the stage, it was amazing when they used the tower crane and the fire works was beautiful.

jameswrightson March 2018

Great end to our holiday. Tickets were upgraded when we arrived and we had great seats with views of the Opera House and Bridge to the front and stage slightly to the left. The Opera was superb, very well staged and great contemporary sets. Highly recommended!!

Syd0000 March 2018

Attended the performance of La Boheme on Sydney Harbour. The location of the venue is second-to-none and the views of Sydney Harbour are absolutely breathtaking. Recommend getting there early (around 5-6pm) to soak up all the atmosphere as there are plenty of bars and restaurants scattered around the site. All seats have a great view of the huge stage. The performance itself was absolutely AMAZING. Everything from the orchestra to the acting and even unique use of props and set were mind-blowing. Sound quality was perfect and the backdrop of Sydney city made the experience even more special. From the falling of snow across the venue to the spectacular fireworks display, there was something to excite us every few moments. Even if your not an Opera fanatic this is an experience you must tick off your bucket list. This is a definite MUST-DO for anyone visiting Sydney as it is a very memorable experience. UNFORGETTABLE!!

Wonderful! The site is perfect for pictures of the stage a barge with the Sydney Opera House in the background. This was the first time we used VIATOR to purchase tickets for an event. The tickets were really great. We were sitting in the second row, to one side of the stage, but within the stage area. After this experience, we have now purchased tickets to events using VIATOR. We have not been disappointed, yet. They really do offer great locations for their theater tickets.

The opera was Carmen and the Company did an excellent job. We took a cab to the theater and after the opera there were many cabs available to return us to our hotel. This was such a wondrous experience.

tohhuitin April 2017

The opera was one of its kind with the beautiful views of Sydney Opera House and Bridge with fireworks. The opera is in Spanish, had to read the subtitles while watching the play. It's an experience to try while in Sydney.

Carole C June 2016

We saw Turandot and it was spectacular. The location was beyond spectacular and the performers were wonderful

Darlene C June 2016

This was the highlight of my trip! The seats in the 2nd row from the stage boasted magnificent views and audio of the Opera, as well as, the harbor with the Opera House as a picturesque background ( the Opera on the Harbor season was in full swing). Opera Turandot was simply superb in its entirety.
