Travel to Moreton Island from Brisbane or the Gold Coast for a full day of fun in the sun. Your guide takes you by 4WD vehicle along the sands to Tangalooma Wrecks, where you'll see incredible coral reefs on snorkel and kayak outings. You'll also go inland for an exhilarating sandboarding experience on massive sand dunes. This action-packed tour includes a lunch on the beach and time to soak up the scenery of lovely Moreton Island, the third largest sand island in the world. We are the only company that does 3 activties on a full-day tour!

Please note: An additional cost of AU$50 (per adult) / AU$35 (per child 13 years & under) must be paid in cash to the driver on departure to cover the cost of national park and ferry fees for the duration of the tour.

This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Moreton Island, Queensland 4025 Australia

In the morning, your 4WD coach picks you up from the Gold Coast or Brisbane, then travels to the ferry to Moreton Island. During the 75-minute ferry ride across Moreton Bay, take in views from the deck or cabin, keep an eye out for dolphins and other marine life.

When you reach the island, your 4WD-vehicle drives along the sand to the Tangalooma Wrecks where you have several options for beachside fun. Follow your guide on a snorkeling tour of the famous shipwrecks; the 15 vessels were purposely sunk here to create a breakwall. This resulting reef is home to colorful corals, tropical fish, trevally, yellowtail, wobbegong, kingfish and more.

If snorkeling doesn’t appeal to you, use the provided transparent bodyboards to paddle in search of turtles, reef fish, coral and other critters, or simply relax on the white-sand beach.

After the snorkel tour, your guide serves a picnic lunch before leading a tour on transparent kayaks to explore the Tangalooma Wrecks. Stay dry as you view an amazing array of fish right below your kayak. (Please note that a 4WD tour around the island will replace the snorkeling and kayaking if conditions are unfavorable).

Next, hang on tight as your driver takes your 4WD on rough inland tracks to tall sand dunes that are ideal for sandboarding, a fun, high-adrenaline activity comparable to tobogganing. It is possible to reach speeds of up to 30 mphr (50 kph) as you zip down the dunes.

After sandboarding, return to the coast and enjoy a swim at Tangalooma Beach (if time allows). Then catch the ferry back to the mainland and reach Brisbane or the Gold Coast in the evening.

I’m completely impressed with the professionalism of this crew. They take care of us every single minute. They have knowledge about everting in that island, the guide, Cris is such a amazing person. If you are looking for the best crew, just choose them, you will won’t regret. And about the island, is wonderful, the most clear water that I have seen in my life. Can’t wait for returning.

Best day, the crew were fantastic and really accommodated for our 5 year old. It was her first time on the reef snorkelling and they made her feel safe and secure. Nothing was too much trouble! A HUGE thank you for all their service. We loved it we are even considering the 2 day tour now!

Really good tour and well worth it. Kind, informative guides made it an enjoyable day. I'd advise wearing sunglasses for the sandboarding. I hit a small divot on the way down and spent three days cleaning sand out of my eyes.

Great guides. Great experiences and so much knowledge among all the employees. Live in Queensland and never realised how little I have seen. Would definitely be back

Leah Marie November 2019

Highly recommend! Wonderful tour, had the best experience ever and had awesome tour guides especially the blonde woman, I believe her name is Tash? I wish I had more time at Moreton Island it was the highlight of my Australian holiday

Les C September 2019

We initially weren't going to participate in the sand boarding but we both walked out to have a look...soooo glad we both ended up sliding down! What a rush! The snorkeling was wonderful....lots of fish around the wrecks. Hands down a great day excursion!

Amazing experience. Very friendly staff. We had enough time for all the activities, and instructions were sufficient. Our tour guid took us some amazing photos while kayaking. Between all the tour guides, I only remember Chris and Tesha but they were all super nice. Sandboarding was really fun too.

A super awesome day! Grant tour guide and Eric tour guide in training were very friendly, courteous and patient. Grant's knowledge of the island extensive. Didn't want the day to end.

I had a great time. The 2 guides that led us on the activities were very sure that we had a safe and fun time. Lunch was a healthy make you own and easy to eat on the beach. I would highly recommend this tour company. It is a very active, fast pace tour.

Highly recommend this trip, simply awesome. The tour guides Matt and Bob from Sunsetsafaris are caring, funny, and responsible. They not only taking care of the fun making of the trip, they do care about your safety as well, really appreciate their patient and caring especially during the snorkeling, as we are not a good swimmer.

The sandborading is a must-try thing in Moreton island! There is one suggestion I can give, probably the participants could be provided a safety goggle during sandboarding, to prevent the sand went into eyes, especially for those who are wearing contact lens, it will be useful.

very funny and nice guide! i typically like the one who taught us sand boarding. Though it was exhausting to go, it worths the price!

Amazing and beautiful island. Sand boarding and kayaking was great fun but for me I could not do snorkelling and so very disappointing. I informed the guide that I had never done snorkelling before so he should have taken extra care to explain the use of equipment and help me out which he did not n took the group near the ship wreck area. I needed more helpful guide n instructor. So I’m unhappy about that.

Pickup and drop-off were nice and clear, the boat ride was smooth, the activities were fantastic! Moreton Island is definitely worth a visit - snorkeling at the wrecks was amazing, and kayaking was nice as well, though hard because of the wind and current at the time that we went. The current there is pretty strong, and that particular day it was windy, so being in the water was more like being on a lazy river. I thought of doing this by myself, and I'm glad I got the tour instead - I don't think I would have gotten to the wrecks safely on my own, even if I'm a good swimmer. Sandboarding was a blast! So glad I did it, and it's less scary than it looks!

The tour had about 30 people on it, so there wasn't much communication among participants, and there were so many guides that it was impossible to establish rapport. The lunch was just terrible bread (you know, the kind that's full of sugar and you can leave it on the cupboard for a month, and it won't go bad), basic veggies and deli meat. Not great for vegetarians who try to watch the figure. No plates to even make yourself a salad; just grab veggies in your hand, I guess. I should have brought my own lunch. Other than sad food options and too big of a group, it was a good tour. Moreton Island is definitely worth a visit, and this tour company is probably just as good as others.

On this trip it takes about an hour to get to the harbour to catch the ferry over to Moreton Island. There is food and restrooms on board the ferry. It took about an hour to get over to the island. Once there you walk about 100 yards along the beach. We did the glass bottom kayak and it was such a great experience. They do provide life vests for this. The next thing was snorkeling, but we chose to stay on the beach instead as the water was quite cold even though you could have a wet suit. After this we were given lunch of sandwiches and chips. Please note, no drinks were provided or not mentioned I think there was water in a jug, but the cups looked dirty. There is only a tiny remote bathroom in this area with no soap available. Be prepared to get in the water when you arrive as not much to change into except the remote bathroom. After lunch we took a 4 wheel vehicle way up the island to sand boarding. It is a difficult climb in sand to the top and you literally slide down a waxed piece of plywood down a very big hill! To say the least, I am still finding sand as you get covered!! If you don't want to kayak, snorkel or sand board, this is not the excursion for you. You are not by the resort and stay together as a group. Our guides were very friendly and helpful and a joy to be around. It is a more remote area of the island and bring a towel as they are not provided.

The trip started off a bit chaotic with staff not really speaking to anyone or getting involved. however, once at the island the "boss" took over and things improved dramatically... Great sand boarding, kayaking and diving. A fab time around the sunken ships, thankfully the trip finished on a high n

Great day trip from Brisbane for the whole family. The snorkeling was fantastic... lots of very cool fish. The Sandboarding wasn't great... long ride out for only a few runs down the hill and the majority of the people in our group could not even gain enough speed to make it down the whole thing. Great lunch on the beach and the clear Kayaks were fun as well.

Karen A March 2017

For the trip to Moreton Island, we were picked up in the Gold Coast. The bus driver that picked us up was very friendly and on-time. From the Gold Coast, we went to Brisbane to pick up other passengers. The bus ride from the Gold Coast to Brisbane was very loud and bumpy. The ferry ride was 1.5 hours long. We purchased snacks and drinks while aboard the ferry. Once we arrived on Moreton Island, we started immediately with the kayaking - it was a nice way to ease into the day. After kayaking, we put on wet suits, flippers, gloves, and a mask for snorkeling. Two guides lead us around in the snorkeling area, so we could see the most number of fish. I have been snorkeling all around the world, and the fish on Moreton Island were abundant but not exotic. After snorkeling, we had a picnic lunch which consisted of make-your-own-sandwiches. The lunch was very informal - no plates, no salads, no napkins - only sandwiches. There were multiple choices of meats and toppings. The food was very fresh. The only drink choice was non-chilled water from a large thermos. After lunch, we piled into a 4x4 bus for a 30 minute drive through the sand to the desert for sandboarding. The sandboarding was very fun, but it was a little rough on the body. You must traverse the hill on your stomach, so your mid-section feels very bump. Some people got a face full of sand. After sandboarding, we piled into the bus for another 30 minute drive back to the beach. After 15 minutse of swimming, it was time to board the ferry for our return trip.

If I were to take this tour again, I would arrange my own transportation from the Gold Coast to Brisbane because I could not tolerate the loud, bumpy bus ride. Also, I would ask for more time snorkeling and less time in the kayak. Lastly, drink options such as bottled water, juice, etc. at lunch would have been nice.

Moreton Island is absolutely beautiful!

Juan Vicente G December 2018

All too fast, no time to really enjoy sandboarding, it is a long drive from the shore to the sandboarding place and after an incident with the bus we could only try 1 slide. Due to weather conditions we could not do the kayaking but the nice people working there offered snorkeling instead. Despite their efforts I think the snorkeling experience was also too fast, we snorkelled around some shipwrecks but it only took like 10 minutes and then headed fast to the boat to take us back to Brisbane.

Shelly S January 2017

Not good value for money. Most of the staff are excellent and friendly. Sand boarding very disappointing and guide in need of a lot more training in customer service.

khashayar f December 2016

Kayaking and snorkeling were nice but the Sandboarding was not for me, especially on a hot sunny day.

Pui Shan L April 2016

I like the sandboarding the best. The kayaking was so and so. We could have gone farther away and for a longer period. Since the group was too big, we were split into two smaller groups and took turns to do kayaking and snorkelling. The corals near the wrecks were a disappointment, compared with those in Kota Kinabalu, or other islands.
But it was good that the operator organised everything and the lunch was fresh and healthy!
