It’s not every day that you get the opportunity to paddle your way through a 10,000 year old mangrove forest amidst approximately 30 residents and 300 transient dolphins. It’s a special experience that simply can’t be replicated, which is why Dolphin Sanctuary Kayak Tours is a must-do!

Our lead guide and Marine Biologist, Andro, has over 5 years’ experience working with marine mammals and wildlife. Participants don’t need any prior kayaking experience, and we travel at a comfortable pace to accommodate intermediate fitness levels.

We hope to see you paddling with us in the Sanctuary soon!

This was given to me as a birthday present by a friend and wow what a great gift. We saw so many dolphins it was fantastic. Our guide Jordan was excellent. We took our time so there was no hurry and if you've never kyaked before you don't need to worry about your skill level on that front either. The mangroves were amazing to see also. This is a brilliant experience and worth the money. I'd totally recommend it and want to do it again

Great experience was had kayaking in the sanctuary. Loved going up the mangrove estuary, the water is so clear - we saw a few dolphins (one went under our kayak). It is a relaxing peaceful experience. Due to change in wind we were unable to get to the shipwrecks, but we will definitely return again when weather improves. Information was also given by guide. Thanks!

Had an awesome time! Our guide was very informative, friendly and enthusiastic. Was surprised at how long the tour went for- thought it would be an hour or so but ended up being almost three hours! (Certainly didn't feel like it). Loved the little creek/mangrove area we got to kayak through. We were very fortunate to have an up-close encounter with a dolphin or two. There were two other Kayak Companies on the same day (all very close together)- however, these guys seemed more professional and more friendly (good signage, provided waterproof pouches, seemed more approachable too). Would recommend to anyone and would love to go again some time. Side note: I had to re-book twice due to a work injury and work schedule issue and they were very kind to re-book at a later date with no extra charge.

An absolutely awesome guided kayak tour. As someone who has fished from Garden Island before on several occasions, I had no idea that the estuarine mangrove creeks on Torrens Island even existed. And what a treat they were to see and paddle upstream on. That, and the ship’s graveyard along with the dolphins coming up to breathe right in front of us. Top rating, and top value for money. If you have kids over 9 and not afraid of rowing on water for three hours, totally recommend as a family activity. Just be prepare to row…a lot.

Great morning activity and lots of fun. Perfect for families with teenagers and those wanting to get outside for a couple of hours. Many thanks

We had an amazing time paddling past shipwrecks and through the mangroves. We even had two seperate dolphin sightings, despite it being winter weather. Awesome experience and I would highly recommend!

Fantastic kayaking around Garden Island. Brisk morning on calm water. Lots of dolphins up close to our kayaks. Our guide, Sam was very knowledgeable and passionate about the dolphins and mangrove environment. The paddle up a secluded creek and around the shipwrecks was a highlight. Highly recommended.

The experience of kayaking the Dolphin Sanctuary and seeing dolphins fairly close, and exploring 2 mangrove creeks was exceptional. The bonus was a beautiful sunny day with light winds. Zac our tour guide was very informative. Zac also gave clear, succinct safety instructions. You have to paddle close by to hear his commentary. Kayak, paddles and life jackets all supplied and in good condition. Highly recommend this tour for all ages.

What an amazing way to learn about dolphins - while kayaking around Garden Island. Our tour guide Zak was knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about marine life, habitat and conservation. My 10 year old daughter & I loved every moment. As first time kayakers we were a little nervous initially but we moved at a relaxed pace, enjoying the surroundings & many dolphins who chose to swim around us. What a great morning, making memories. Thank you

The weather was perfect, the water was like glass, our guide Zac was extremely knowledgeable and we learned lots about dolphins and mangroves. Oh, and we got to see dophins frolicking in the water! The kayaking is easy (even if you haven't had any previous experience) and the pace is slow and steady. The side trips into the mangroves are quite something. It was a bit surreal to be in the midst of this gorgeous little spot of nature in the middle of quite an industrial area. Can't fault anything!

Fantastic experience with lots of fun and adventure. The Guide was very informative and friendly. Best part was the mangrove creek and Dolphin spotting.

Had a wonderful 3 hours with Zac who was a very informative guide on the dolphins, mangroves and shipwrecks. It was a cloudy and fairly calm day. Had fun out in the open. we even saw 5 dolphins...a bonus. My partner had never done kayaking before and the pace was fairly relaxed and suitable for most people with some level of fitness

Great experience kayaking through the dolphin sanctuary and mangroves. It was good exercise but also fun, and seeing the dolphins up close was very memorable. They are beautiful creatures. Our guide Zack was friendly and also very patient with our guest who were struggling to manoeuvre the kayak a little at first. He has excellent knowledge about the local wildlife, particularly the dolphins. It was good to have a guided tour for the first time you go. We will probably come back again and do the river on our own as we enjoyed it so much. Very reasonable price for the time you spend on the water.

The Dolphin Sanctuary Kayak tour is an awesome day out! We learnt about the Port area from our fantastic tour guide Sam, saw plenty of dolphins up close and kayaked through some beautiful mangroves. Would highly recommend :).

It’s the first time we are trying kayak... the guide was so patient and caring. Love it a lot. Will definitely do again in the future.

Sam was an excellent tour guide. He had lots of knowledge about the area and the wildlife and was happy to answer all questions. His enthusiasm and warmth made this an even more memorable experience. I had the best time out on the water. WE SAW LOTS OF DOLPHINS!! I am particularly interested in birdlife and Garden Island area did not disappoint. Thanks Sam for making this an amazing adventure.

Gemmarae_H April 2021

If you are confident in kayaking then do NOT do the guided tour! I felt like everything was a bit rushed although we had 3 hours the few times we did see dolphins we moved on pretty fast which was unfortunate.

Damion_T April 2021

Friendly, well equiped operators. Our guide Sam was excellent. The weather was on our side. Thanks for such a great time.

ashbone4 April 2021

We did a self-guided tour, incredible experience! We saw dolphins almost as soon as we got in the water and they swam very close to us. Definitely recommend to others, staff/guides are very passionate and knowledgeable people

Our guide was very informative. we had a great time. I especially enjoyed laying back while my boyfriend paddled HAHA

madnikki March 2021

Zach was an awesome guide, he had so much knowledge to share. We were quite lucky to have sighted so many dolphins, couldn't ask for much more. The group was attentive in paying respect to the wildlife and they did end up swimming closer in some cases. Definitely go through the mangroves, they are well worth it.

I had no idea that this hidden gem has been at my doorstep all my life! I did the 3 hour self guided tour and loved every minute! Saw lots of dolphins, and exploring the shipwrecks and creeks around the sanctuary was fun too. Would recommend this tour for anyone to do.

The tour guide (Zac) had in-depth knowledge about the dolphins due to his marine biologist study. Our family of 4 went on Australia Day 2021 in the morning. It was 24 degrees overcast with mild breeze at time. Our tour group had 9 people, which was not too big. The day before had heavy rainfall & brought out lots of mosquitoes at the mangroves. Lucky that the tour guide was prepared with insect repellant (& I was wearing long-sleeved jacket)! Zac was great in spotting dolphins & he pointed out 2 to us. Overall, the tour was great as it was a peaceful way to enjoy nature. The mangroves part was a fun way to challenge your kayaking skill in tight space! I definitely had fun and will do it again.
