An unforgettable 1/2 day adventure on Hervey Bay's premium mid-sized 1/2 day whale watching and charter boat; with a strong focus on ecological practices, sustainability, education, inspiration and enjoyment!

Experience close whale encounters (when the whales are so close to the boat that you could almost touch them), pec/tail slapping, breaching, spy-hopping and mating behaviours.

As the newest 1/2 day boat in the fleet, this boat was built specifically for amazing whale and dolphin viewing. Low passenger numbers (only take maximum 60% of capacity), means everyone has a chance to get a great view of the action from both inside and outside the vessel (with multi-level viewing decks).

Two daily cruises to choose from. The ONLY 1/2 day cruise boat to include meals (buffet lunch on the morning cruise and buffet dinner on the afternoon cruise).

Listen to the whales 'sing' with our hydrophone and enjoy a live commentary in English (French, German, Italian and Spanish translation also).

We'll depart from the Great Sandy Straits Marina out towards Platypus Bay, where the mighty Humpback Whales come to rest and play. Some of the behaviours we'll observe are: breaching, spy-hopping, pec-slapping, tail-slapping and lunges. We usually see our resident bottlenose dolphins playing with their Humpback whale friends too. Cruising alongside the West Coast of K'gari (Fraser Island), we may even be lucky enough to spot a dingo.

Our 1/2 day morning or afternoon cruise will leave you with cherished memories to last a lifetime. Choose from our Extended Morning (5 hour cruise) or our Afternoon + Sunset (4 hour cruise). Fun, educational, interesting, inspirational and amazing are just some of the ways to describe a Whale Watch experience with Whalesong. Join us to tick off an incredible bucket list experience.

The awesome sight of seeing mum and baby whales performing for us with their dives and breeches, the sight of them in full flight mid air was amazing. So late in the season on the 10th October 21 was incredible sighting. The boats captain went in search for us to see this amazing sight and didn't rush to finish when time was tight. Incredibly blessed on the day!

We enjoyed our half day whale watching with Whalesong. We were picked up at our accommodation on time and transport to the Marina, and subsequently delivered back. Not long after setting off coffee and cake was served. There is great commentary on the boat and the staff were very pleasant. Lunch was included in the price and was very generous. We saw lots of whales but they were quite inactive, most just lying on top of the water. There were a few breaches and tail flaps but not as much as we would be expected. This of course was no fault of the Whalesong operators. I can thoroughly recommend Whalesong as a whale watching experience.

I did this half day trip with my wife and thoroughly enjoyed it. From when I booked the tickets, to when we finished the tour the service was friendly and efficient. The morning tea and lunch were just what you needed. The food was fresh and healthy. If you required a beer or snack they could be purchased at very reasonable prices. When we went there were plenty of whales towards the end of the tour. The Captain does his best to keep everyone informed, and does go searching for the whales. The boat is a good size, which in my opinion ensures there is better service. Would highly recommend this company. Keep up the good work Whalesong.

Excellent from start to finish! From on-time pick up to drop off, this experience was very well orchestrated and delivered. The commentary was good but difficult to hear all over the boat. We saw only a few whales as it was nearing end of season, but they put on a show for us. Naturally, I didn’t get one good shot! LOL But I have my memories and no one can steal them except for the ‘old timer’. Staff were friendly and competent. Food well prepared and tasty for limited facilities. Highly recommend.

Welcoming crew, beautiful day on the water, saw whales baby and her mum and future boyfriend, they breeched for us and threw their huge fins in the air. Lovely lunch, highly recommend to go with the company whalesong tours.

The tour guide was very interesting with whale facts. The staff were very friendly. They found the whales and the whales put on a show.

We had a fantastic afternoon, from pick up at our accommodation, to the promise of seeing whales that was more than fulfilled. The team were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, the meal simple, fresh and well prepared. Watching a pod of 7 whales chase each other around the bay, watching a family pod of mother and calf with a male protector was amazing, the captain took great care to ensure the safety of the whales whilst we enjoyed the fantastic view and commentary. Thank you for a most wonderful afternoon.

Amazed we actually saw a lot of whales being at the end of migrating season. Staff informative and helpful, covid safe and clean. Food and refreshments provided was plentiful. I was in a walking boot after fracturing my ankle and had no problem navigating areas on the boat.

Having a trio of whales come up to the boat and stay beside it for a good 20 plus minutes. Appreciated the care the Captain took to make sure he respected the space the whales required to stay safe and the interesting commentary he gave.

We enjoyed the cruise with family from 3 generations. Everything was to our liking. The service and food were excellent. We were also very fortunate to enjoy perfect weather conditions and lots of whales close by.

An amazing day out! We were so lucky to see heaps of whales who breached and played for our entertainment. Calves, mums and aunties and even a pod-chase by a couple of eager males! Conditions were perfect too, which added to the experience. The staff were professional and the Captain provided great commentary and followed pods to give us the best experience. Couldn't fault it. Will definitely recommend to others and book again. Admin was great too. Email reminders and a very easy and efficient booking system with clear directions. Well done, Whalesong Cruises, and thank you.

A wonderful experience watching the whales. The crew looked after us really well and the food they served was really good. The boat was a great size as there weren’t heaps of people on board so you had a great view of the whales. Great afternoon. Thank you.

ShereeM755 September 2021

Very enjoyable day, perhaps a bit too long. Many of the passengers were inside asleep after three hours, particularly children. This made eating lunch inside difficult as weather was not good most people wanted to be inside. Staff were friendly and lunch was surprisingly tasty given the limited catering space. Most importantly there were many whales to see.

Absolutely fabulous day out. All staff were so friendly informative and helpful. Hot drinks and morning tea served to you so you can enjoy the views and on the return a lovely fresh lunch. Not too crowded so plenty of space to view the whales. There were plenty of mums and calves putting on fabulous displays for us. The skipper thoroughly enjoyed watching with us and his commentary was great. Highly recommend Whalesong. Book direct currently and we got an onboard credit.

Loved this experience. Plenty of room on the boat, which was clean and had great food included (arvo tea and dinner). The captain was so knowledgeable and his love for the whales was evident, he spoke with awe, wonder and delight as though he was seeing these beautiful animals for the first time - loved his fatherly laugh when the baby would do tail slapping and rolls.

1st time whale watching with Whalesong Cruising. Fabulous afternoon cruise, we got to see a beautiful pod of very active whales and watched them the entire time. The staff were amazing, the food very well prepared. A smaller cruise, just a perfect day. Highly recommend.

Went on the afternoon whale watching cruise. First whale watching cruise, ever. Very enjoyable and saw plenty of whales including calves learning to breech. Magnificent! Whalesong and the afternoon cruise had been recommended to us and they didn't disappoint. Crew on Whalesong were helpful and commentary was informative and interesting. Dinner was chicken, cold meat and salad - yum. Bar on board to enjoy a sunset drink as cruise back to the harbour. Must do experience when in Hervey Bay.

My wife and I went on a Whale song afternoon (2pm-6pm) whale watching cruise on the 18th of September. We had the best time! Conditions were perfect, the boat was nice size (catered for about 60 people), staff were friendly and the captain gave us loads of information about the whales. We saw lots of whales, up close, lots of breeches, mother's with calves, large males and the 4 hours went by really quick. The waters were a little choppy, but still calm to enjoy the experience. We were fully catered for in terms of food (gluten and dairy free choices) and staff came around with platter food especially for us. The dinner was nice, cold meats (ham and chicken) and salads with gluten and dairy free options. There was a Bar on board for drinks and snacks if you wanted. The sunset was magnificent, which made the afternoon cruise perfect! I does get a little cool between 4-6, so take a warm jacket for the ride home. Great value for money, and they basically guarantee you will see whales, just depends on how active they are when you come across them-we were thrilled they were very active! I would not hesitate to recommend using Whalesong for your whale watching experience.

This planned activity was offered to my participants through the PCYC Get Set For Work program, This provided environmental and cultural information ,Plus an introduction into the tourist industry. The Captain spent time educating the mixed group of 5 students who's ages ranged from 15 to 17 ,. The skipper explained what qualification are needed to become a cruise skipper and what it takes to become a deck hand. The experience was unforgettable for the Young people as they had never seen whales in their own habitat , This was a surprise as they all live here on the bay. This type of experience is not just for visiting tourist ,its an opportunity for locals to learn how to protect their environment and the local economy.

cathy764 September 2021

The Whalesong cruise out to see the whales was the highlight of our holiday! The staff were wonderful and made sure everyone's needs were met. I use a power wheelchair and got onto the boat easily and had ample room on the deck to move around. They have a wheelchair accessible toilet, and you can wheel into the enclosed seating area, although there is no area to park your chair in there without obstructing exits, so I parked outside on the deck. We had great weather, and had the delight of seeing a juvenile whale hover around our boat for about an hour! Really breath taking. Nice lunch, and bonus dingo sightings on Fraser Island on the way back to Hervey Bay. I would recommend cruising with Whalesong.

Amanda_S September 2021

Went on the morning trip and it was amazing! The crew were super friendly and helpful, the boat was very clean and well stocked. Best of all, the whales are magical to see them do their thing. Overall delighted and highly recommend Whalesong for your next family adventure!!
