Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Low Isles QLD 4873, Australia

Sail from Port Douglas aboard a luxury catamaran to visit Low Isles in the quieter morning hours, before the majority of visitors arrive. After cruising from the mainland, arrive at Low Isles, where you can spend four and a half hours at Low Isles, a coral cay island where you can relax under palm trees on the white sands and snorkel off-beach in the sheltered lagoon’s undersea coral gardens.

Take a walk to Low Isles’ historic lighthouse, dating from 1878, or learn about the Great Barrier Reef’s magical underwater world of iridescent fish and fluorescent coral on a guided snorkel tour led by a marine biologist. There’s more fun eco-education aboard a glass-bottom boat tour, with stunning coral views and expert commentary.

After a seafood buffet lunch on board the catamaran, soak up the sun on the deck or return to the water for a final snorkel before returning to Port Douglas by 4pm.

Only a select group of operators are permitted to visit the coral cay Low Isles, the only Great Barrier Reef island a short sail from Port Douglas. This cruise combines luxury and eco credentials, for a premium reef experience.

Really enjoyed our excursion. The food was delicious and having a small group was wonderful. I would highly recommend this excursion to anyone. Way superior to what our cruise ship had to offer!

February 2020

It was a wonderful day with this crew that included Louisa, Blake and Cam. They proved excellent personalized service and a great lunch.

Boarded the Sailaway Catamaran around 8.30 with my wife and 4 other guests and 2 crew Blake and Lizzie. It was a personal cruise out to the Reef at Lowe Island where we were the only boat all day. After a sail of around an hour we arrived and were taken to shore in a small boat - we had the island to ourselves. We then snorkelled from the beach in the Coral for around 45 mins with Lizzie who was pointing out all sorts of fish and we even saw 2 turtles. A guided trip round the Island was next which took around 20 mins explaining everything that goes on with the 2 caretakers on the island. Back to the main boat for a delicious buffet lunch with fruit and water. After lunch we had the option to swim from the boat and despite the 5 sharks off the back of the boat it did not put 3 of us off exploring more coral for another 45 mins. Around 2.45 it was time to sail back to Port Douglas where we arrived around 4pm. I have done many tours with Viator all over the world but this was by far the best and a truly wonderful experience that my wife and I will never forget - this is a must tour if in the area.

Having used Viator in May 2019 for a trip in Alaska we decided to use them again for a special tick box excursion to the lower isles Great Barrier Reef. Knowing the high standard we received in May last year we were thankfully not disappointed this time. Professionalism to the highest standard. Thankyou guys for such a well organised effortless trip.

Great Sailing trip. Enough space on board. Good snorkeling induction also for beginners. Great sailing back to the port. Absolutely recommended.

Ian N August 2019

The crew were extremely helpful rushing around sorting and organising the day trip.
Lovely layout of food was offered through out the day from the moment we stepped on the boat until we returned to port at Port Douglas.
Saw a variety of marine life throughout the day, with the crew leading the snorkelling around the reef pointing out and giving a brief on each sighting. Also on offer was glass boat bottom tour around the reef.
In all an excellent day out.

As someone who has snorkelled the outer reef only in the past this was a different experience. The coral didn't have the colour I was used to nor were there any fish to speak of. There was however lots of variety in the coral reef. Staff were professional and food plentiful. The glass bottom boat is also a good addition as Jaz gave us a lot of additional info. The ride out and back to reef was really pleasant too amongst the gorgeous scenery.

Excellent - cant speak highly enough of this trip.
Staff very knowledgeable.
Nothing too much trouble for them.
Food - delicious and plenty of.

excellent port douglass trip. excellent staff, clean boat, excellent instructors and good food.

Tiffany C March 2018

Our family mom, dad and four teenage kids thoroughly enjoyed this trip. The ship has a limited number of guests, which made a big difference when snorkeling. The crew is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. It was a safe, relaxed atomsphere. We didn't feel rushed when we were snorkeling. The food was excellent. And sailing back it is a sail boat was a bonus. We'd do it again.

Superbe !

Annette February 2018

Excellent trip. Got to snorkel with reef sharks and a turtle. Amazing experience

Jayne F February 2018

Couldnt have asked for anything better. Great day!

Gillian C January 2018

Excellent but know that it is the inner reef. Saw and swam alongside a turtle which was my highlight. The food provided during the day was amazing and plentiful.

vicki_macas January 2018

We had a great time, the crew was amazing. The food was outstanding. A bit disappointed with the snorkel area. I've done a tour before with another company and saw more vibrant fish and turtles, baby sharks. Overall it was great.

Deborah C January 2018

We had a great time on this tour, all the tour's we did where as small as possible. The mates where very good and fun! Very organized and went over the safety procedures with us.
Enjoyed the snorkeling although the water was not to clear this particular day. Overall, a lot of fun! Good fins and snorkel's, nice skin's to wear. Good Day!

It was very professional and enjoyable. Every detail was well managed and taken care of from safety to enjoyment.

Geoff H November 2017

This tour was one of the best we have been on.
The crew were very helpful and knowledgable and the catamaran we sailed on was only 3 years old and in superb condition, with a capacity of only about 30 guests which is good if you like a more personal trip.
Very often on trips such as this the buffet lunch is a disappointment, this was certainly not the case here, with a good selection of cold meats, salads and fruit. Undoubtedly this was probably the best buffet lunch we have experienced on the many trips we have undertaken around the world.
The Low Isles are a good choice if you want to sail part way to the main barrier reef.
Snorkelling was good with options for experienced snorkelling or inexperienced snorkelling.
A short guided walk explains the history of the island, on which there is a lighthouse on which ospreys are nesting.
All things considered this trip rates as one of the best we have undertaken.

We booked the Sailing and Snorkelling Tour to Low Isles. This was our first adventure when in Port Douglas and certainly one I would recommend.
The crew were very customer focussed and couldn't have taken better care of everyone. They were very knowledgeable and keen to offer everyone a fantastic experience, even spending one to one time helping those who had never snorkelled before and were a bit apprehensive.
The catering was first class and they didn't skimp. We had a full buffet lunch with a great choice that would suit everyone and tea with a plentiful supply of muffins, cakes and pastries.
I would highly recommend the tour.

A fantastic day. Beautiful boat, excellent crew and superb snorkelling and delicious food. A winning combination. We wouldn't change a thing.

Kathryn C September 2017

So happy we went with a smaller company! Crew was amazing, boat was beautiful and only about 18 people on charter so didn't have to deal with large crowds other tours herd on their cargo loads. Beautiful lunch on board and again can't rave about crew enough. So nice, had I had more time in Port Douglas, would have booked this for a second day. Sailed home from lower island - amazing trip!!

Jacqueline E September 2017

Small group, early in the day, the only way to go. Crew so nice! We had a perfect day to snorkel - no wind, sunny, absolutely perfect weather. Lunch was good too.

Cheryl B August 2017

There are so many travel options to view the Great Barrier Reef, but I was concerned about being with a large group of people. This was the perfect trip. We were picked up, which was lovely, and it only went up from there. The captain was wonderful, and the biologist who lead the snorkeling were knowledgeable. My 25 year-old son had a blast riding on the front of the sail boat on the way home.
